IMG’S NEW YORK FASHION WEEK SCHEDULE

New York Fashion Week is upon us. No longer Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, IMG/WME now own what is called simply New York Fashion Week: The Shows.
Spanning eight days, September 10- September 17 this will be the first season IMG/WME beta tests the new setup in two new locations, Skylight at Moynihan Station and Skylight Clarkson Sq in Soho.

The biggest changes will be the lack of advertisement allowed at the show venues, with sponsors, Intel, Lexus, Maybelline; now having discreet headquarters in adjacent locations.

Adding tho this, with the rush of brands to establish social media platforms in the last few years, IMG has produced a NYFW app as one of the many ways they wish to integrate themselves into this world and potentially as a point of sale for the future.. Mark Shapiro, IMG’s Chief Content Officer says ”we’re going to have to crack some kind of retail component, because if you’re going to live-stream and create that buzz, why wouldn’t you want to capitalize on it?” -New York Times

A MODERN BODY :: KATE UPTON

Living in an imperfect world has its upsides- our minds are constantly searching for improvements; in ourselves, each other and in larger groups like our friends, families and communities. We like to change the way we look, we monitor the way we act towards each other and we feel we have the right to be treated well by others.
In the fashion community, businesses (read: designers, editors, magazines etc) redefine the norms of things like beauty and health almost constantly. They promote popular body shape, skin color, hair styles and ultimately advertise apparel, beauty products and jewellery to increase sales and promote brand recognition.

On a daily basis, we see beautiful designs displayed on the achingly thin bodies of pre-pubescent teens- a common sight in fashion advertising and editorials. Since the rise of heroin-chic bodies like that of Kate Moss (circa 1990′s) there has been backlash towards fashion houses that manipulate inspiration into thinspiration. Even then, the frequent call of media and advertising to change our outer selves in order to be happier, healthier and more beautiful have taken the dominant role for more than two decades.
