Brighter Skin: Cleansing to Casting

To maintain bright, clear skin is a valuable asset for a model.  For some it’s necessary that you cleanse both in the morning and evening. However, applying makeup at least once a day and more if you’re working- you should take some extra steps in your routine to deeply cleanse your pores. You’ll also benefit from knowing how to apply minimal makeup to highlight your clear and glowing complexion.

REVEAL As a weekly treatment for your skin, apply the Oxygen Peel from Philosphy. Oxygen is used to purify the skin without being too harsh or drying. Deeply cleansing pores of excess makeup, avoiding build-up that can cause blemishes if left on the skin. As you clear up the congested pores, your skins natural radiance is restored. You’ll notice brighter looking skin right away.

EXFOLIATE Exfoliation can do wonders for your skin. With the right product, you will remove dead-skin debris, soften the skin and reduce visible pore size. We recommend Kiehls Pineapple Papaya Facial Scrub, for an (almost) daily scrub that uses real fruit to exfoliate gently. If you like things a bit grittier try Lush Ocean Salt; using vodka, lime, sea salt and coconut to reveal fresh-from-the-sea skin.

PROTECT Next up, apply your favorite eye cream. We know some models consider themselves too young to start using an eye cream in their daily routine. However, environmental damage can start at any age. Being in the sun can be damaging to the delicate skin around your eyes, applying eye cream in the evening can help strengthen and protect from premature aging of the skin.
For first timers we recommend Jurlique Herbal Recovery Eye Cream. A refreshing and brightening cream with cucumber, chamomile and arnica to reduce puffiness.

NOURISH Following the eye cream, use a night time moisturiser. This should be more nourishing than your morning moisturiser, and without any SPF. During sleep your skin repairs, and by using a serum, oil or moisturiser at night you can wake up with balanced and rejuvenated skin.  We like Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil, lightweight, high in vitamin E and free from any additives.

CASTING Arriving at your casting with a glowing, clear complexion will let clients know you care for your skin. Nothing looks better than spot-free skin, so follow the steps below to enhance your hard-earned glow.

PRIMER Using a primer can not only help your foundation and concealer stay longer, it will fill pores to give you flawless looking skin. Smashbox Photo Finish Luminizing Primer is a lightly pearlescent formula that will give skin radiance, worn alone or under foundation.

HIGHLIGHT We recommend using a highlighter to give you a glow and bring dimension to the face. Start by applying highlight to cheekbones, the bow of your upper lip, down the bridge of the nose,  under the eyebrow on the outer edge of your eye and inner eyes.
A luxurious option is TOM FORD Illuminating Powder Translucent, which creates a sheer glow on the skin that’s only barely detectable. Benefit Cometics Sun Beam, imparts a golden glow, the liquid formula goes a long way and looks great on medium to dark skin tones. For a no-shimmer highlight, dab on a little vaseline, and light will bounce off the balmy finish.

BRIGHT EYES A simple way to brighten the eyes is by lining the inner rim with a skin-tone liner. For a natural look, leave the white eyeliner in your kit and opt for tarte EmphasEYES Inner Rim Brightener. Never use white liner as it can look to obvious. Next, try curling your lashes to look wide awake. For all day curl DiorShow Heat CurlHeating Lash Curler (battery operated) is a great investment. Before applying mascara use easily and quickly for lashes that really stay curled all day.

Making a routine of caring for your skin, and using complexion enhancing products will make it easier for you to maintain flawless skin over time. For now start with a few products you know you can easily add to your regimen and you might notice clients and bookers responding to your brighter, glowing skin.
